The Tractor Boys finally won their first game of the campaign as a Macauley Bonne header, which went without reply, ensured all three points for Cook’s side and they moved up three spots in the table.

Next they face Sheffield Wednesday, who have had an almost opposite trajectory to that of the Blues as a strong start to the season has made way for a three-game winless streak.

Cook feels that the Blues have to back up their performance against the Imps by putting in a similarly impressive performance against the Owls next weekend.

The Blues boss thinks that with only seven games of the League One season played, there is still a long way to go and the win against Lincoln City must be used as a springboard to better things.

“We just want to make those supporters happy”, Cook was quoted as saying by the Ipswich Star.

“Now we’ve got to make sure we follow that up next week against Sheffield Wednesday.

“We’ve got that elusive win now that will give us a platform to go on.

“We’ve only played seven league games.

“Seven! And we’ve got 39 to go.

“If we can play like we did in the first half for longer, the reality is we’ll be okay.”

The Owls are still five points ahead of the Blues but Cook’s men can cut the difference to two points next weekend as they look to get going in the hopes of a promotion push.
