Celtic signed the 23-year-old Irish defender from Shamrock Rovers in the summer, but he is yet to play a game for the Glasgow giants this season.

Ange Postecoglou recently stressed that Scales is still not ready to feature for Celtic, but Ferguson thinks that match fitness must not be an issue as he has been playing for Shamrock since March when the Irish season started.

The former Rangers star conceded that the step up to the Scottish Premiership is hard but insisted that Scales stood out when he watched Shamrock earlier in the season.

And he stressed that given what he has seen of Scales for Shamrock, the defender has the talent and potential to be a solid player for Celtic going forward.

Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show: “I have seen Scales for Shamrock a couple of times and to be honest with you, he stood out for me.

“They have been playing since the middle of March and they had a small break in June so he is certainly up to speed in terms of game time.

“It is a big leap, no doubt about it, going from the Irish league to the Premiership but there is no doubt that he is a decent player.

“He has got a real good opportunity because, as I said, I saw him twice for Shamrock and he has definitely got the potential to make it at Celtic.”

Scales will hope to get his debut for Celtic soon as he looks to prove himself worthy of playing for the Glasgow giants.
