Benitez’s Everton crashed out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night when they lost to Queens Park Rangers on penalties at Loftus Road.

Everton did put out a relatively strong side, but were held to a 2-2 draw before being knocked out of the competition on penalties against the Championship side.

But Jordan indicated that Benitez will not be too worried about not progressing in the EFL Cup as he will judge himself through Everton’s performance in the Premier League.

The former Crystal Palace owner stressed that he is likely to value a higher finish in the Premier League over winning or progressing the secondary domestic cup competition.

Jordan said on talkSPORT: “I wonder about the priorities of certain managers.

“I wonder if his preference is to be higher up the Premier League because he believes he is an elite Premier League manager, he believes he has more juice in him achieving something higher in the Premier League.

“If he puts Everton eighth or seventh or sixth in the Premier League and gets knocked out of the League Cup, his stock and currency would be far higher and his reputation would be far better than perhaps progressing through the League Cup.”

Everton will be in Premier League action on Saturday when they host bottom-placed Norwich City at Goodison Park.
