Steven Gerrard’s side booked their place in the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup with a 2-0 victory over league rivals Livingston at Ibrox on Wednesday.

While Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos found the back of the net for Rangers and Ianis Hagi made a significant impact off the bench, it was Bassey who impressed Thomson the most.

The former Rangers midfielder picked the 21-year-old as the man of the match against Livingston and went on to hail him for the energy he showed on the night.

Thomson, who was also impressed with Leon Balogun and Connor Goldson on the night, is of the view that Bassey left everything out on the pitch and was infectious for the Gers.

I’m going to go for Calvin Bassey [as the man of the match against Livingston]“, Thomson said on Rangers TV.

Just think his energy – at times the crosses may have not been right – but just infectious.

His drive, he has left everything out on that pitch.

Could easily pick one of the two centre-backs as well, but tonight for me, Calvin Bassey [is the man of the match].

With Bassey continuing to push Borna Barisic for a starting position in the team, Gerrard will be delighted with the left-back options he has at his disposal.
