Newcastle are still waiting for their first win of the season and only have two points from their opening five Premier League games.

They were part of an enthralling 1-1 draw at home against Leeds last week, but many Newcastle fans have been demanding that Bruce step down.

The Newcastle boss has become a lightning rod for all the discontent the Newcastle fans have towards the club’s owner Mike Ashley and Bruce conceded that he is used to it as he has attracted criticism since he joined the club.

He said in a press conference when asked about the fans wanting him to leave: “I’ve had flak since I walked through the door.

“Unfortunately it’s something we all [managers] have to deal with. You’re judged on results and we haven’t got enough at the moment.”

One of the main criticisms towards Bruce is the style of football that Newcastle play under him, but he stressed that they were far from boring against Leeds last week.

He loved the way Newcastle responded to conceding a goal and admitted that he enjoyed watching his team play against the Whites.

“We’re supposed to be ‘boring Newcastle’ but we weren’t vs Leeds.

“We decided to go to a back four and match them up in the middle of the pitch which suited us, I believe.

“I enjoyed the game.

“It was difficult for us for 20 minutes but we responded well.

“I thought it was a terrific game so more of the same tomorrow.”
