The Spaniard arrived on Merseyside last summer but had to spend multiple spells on the sidelines in his first season owing to injury and illness.

Thiago picked up a calf injury earlier this month in Liverpool’s 3-0 Premier League win against Crystal Palace and is still recuperating.

Reds legend Aldridge is disappointed Thiago has suffered yet another injury setback, as niggling injury issues have denied him an opportunity to show his worth on a regular basis since joining Liverpool.

Aldridge explained that whenever Thiago appears to have got into his groove, his season is interrupted, which will be frustrating for him as well.

“Thiago’s recent injury setback for Liverpool is really disappointing to see, having been ruled until at least after the international break”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“I know a lot of the fans are gutted to see him out for a spell on the sidelines, like me, but it’s probably even more frustrating for him than the supporters because he will be desperate to show his value.

“He has not had the opportunity to do that on a regular basis due to a positive [virus] test early on in his Liverpool career coupled with his injury setbacks of last season.

“We all know what a good player Thiago can be, you only have to look at the way he has performed at previous clubs.

“When he starts playing well, he has always been interrupted.

“But let’s hope that after this injury, he can come back and steer clear of all these injuries that he has picked up.

“It’s just unfortunate for him the way things have gone so far.”

Thiago has featured in four of Liverpool’s six Premier League games so far this season and fans will be hoping he will return to the pitch soon.
