Wirtz’s performances for the German top flight club have seen him making his way onto the transfer wish list of major clubs in Europe.
Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Wirtz, while Manchester City have scouted him heavily.
Bayern Munich, though, are leading the race to acquire the teenager’s services from Bayer Leverkusen, according to German daily Bild.
Bayer Leverkusen are determined to retain Wirtz’s services beyond next summer and a sale is more likely to happen in 2023.
And Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are in the pole position to sign him when Bayer Leverkusen make him available for transfer.
While the Bavarians are the favourites to sign Wirtz, it remains to be seen if any of his suitors in England can lure him in the summer of 2023 or sooner.
