Chelsea spent big to sign the forward last season but his first season at Chelsea was a story of him missing what many felt were easy chances and his inability to find the back of the net consistently.

He is playing in a different role this season following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, but has only scored twice this season so far.

Rohl stressed that Werner still has the potential to become a good forward in the future, but he needs to be more confident in order to score goals consistently.

He stressed that the Germany coaching staff are working on him and are trying to provide Werner with a conducive atmosphere where he will be able to thrive going forward.

Rohl told The Athletic: “We have other forwards, like Timo Werner, who can also be a good striker.

“He needs self-confidence and I hope we can build this up in the national team.

“We can create an atmosphere for him.

“The first bit of feedback from him was great.”

Thomas Tuchel has been a fervent supporter of Werner despite his struggles in front of goal since last season.
