Since the takeover at Newcastle was completed on Thursday by the consortium backed up by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, the speculation over who could be the next manager at St. James’ Park has gone into overdrive.

Steve Bruce has more or less conceded that he is likely to be sacked by the new regime and the talk is that it could happen even before their next game a week from Sunday.

Gerrard is currently the bookies’ favourite to be the next Newcastle manager and Parlour indicated that it could be the stepping stone to the former midfielder’s dream job of becoming the Liverpool boss one day.

However, he believes that the former England star still needs to prove a few more things with Rangers before he gets a job in the Premier League.

Parlour said on talkSPORT: “He is going to be the Liverpool manager one day.

“Whether it is the stepping stone to Liverpool? I don’t know.

“But I think he still has a lot to prove in Scotland like can we win it again?”

The 41-year-old, who has been at Rangers since 2018, has a contract until 2024 with the club.
