Llorente picked up a hamstring injury in the Madrid club’s win against Barcelona earlier in the month and had to miss out on the Spain squad for the recent international break.

The last time Atletico Madrid and Liverpool met, in the Round of 16 of the 2019/20 Champions League season, Llorente turned out to be the star of the show as he slotted in two goals in extra-time in the second leg at Anfield to hand defeat to the Reds.

Speaking about the game at Anfield, Llorente admitted the match turned out to be a game-changer for his career and he will never forget the memory of that night.

The Atletico Madrid star also confessed that he is not sure of he will be able to participate in the game next week against the Reds.

“I think it was a game that marked me and that as a result of that night everything changed for me at the club”, Llorente said on Spanish radio programme El Larguero about the victory against Liverpool.

“I also had the opportunity to play for the national team and I think it was a turning point.

“It was my best night as a footballer.

“Emotions from that day are going to be difficult to repeat.

“They are going to go to the grave with me.

“I don’t know if I will get to play against Liverpool as I would arrive with few training sessions with the team, it all depends on how I progress in the coming days.”

Llorente has made an appearance in all of Atletico Madrid’s matches this season and they will be hoping that the versatile midfielder is able to recover in time for the game against the Reds.
