A run of poor results came to an end just before the international break when Celtic beat Aberdeen at Pittodrie to win their first league game away from home since February.
They are sixth in the league table and are already six points behind league leaders Rangers in the race for the title.
McNamara admires Postecoglou and the kind of football he wants his Celtic side to play every week, but noted how Martin O’Neill would find ways to win.
The former Bhoy admits that it looks great when all the pieces in the puzzle come together for the Celtic manager.
However, he stressed that Postecoglou needs to find ways to get points when Celtic are not playing well and believes the win over Aberdeen was a step in the right direction for the team.
“I think when it works, it’s great”, McNamara told The Athletic.
“I was there against Dundee [a 6-0 home win in August] and it was great to watch.
“The biggest thing now is trying to get that every game, or finding a way to win when you can’t do that.
“Martin’s big thing was problem-solving: it was finding a way to win, finding solutions. That’s what football is, what top teams do.
“It’s important to win in a certain style but, for now, just winning is the important thing.
“We saw it can be done in Aberdeen, which is a big thing because other away games, they wouldn’t have the results, so it was a step in the right direction.”
Celtic have another away trip lined up today when they will take on Motherwell at Fir Park.
