The new era at Newcastle started with a defeat on Sunday when the Magpies lost 3-2 at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

There was an air of expectancy under the new Newcastle ownership, but as the game wore on the fans’ ire towards Bruce became palpable and they want him out of the club as soon as possible.

Newcastle are working on bringing in a new manager and Bruce is almost certain to be sacked in the coming days or weeks.

Ferguson conceded that he felt sorry for Bruce as the Newcastle boss looked under immense pressure and he needs the club to make a decision over his future soon.

He also insisted that Newcastle need to bring in the new man soon as the manager will need time to plan for the January transfer window.

Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show: “I feel sorry for Steve Bruce.

“He looked a man under pressure and I just think he is wanting a decision to be made.

“They need to do it, sooner rather than later, if they want to get a new manager and he needs to be preparing for the January window.”

Newcastle are looking for a steady pair of hands who will be able to keep them in the Premier League this season.
