Morelos’ form has been a worry for Rangers this season and he again misfired as the Gers only managed a 1-1 draw against Hearts at the weekend.

Steven Gerrard’s side created a plethora of chances throughout the game, but a lack of cutting edge up front and Morelos’ poor form contributed to them dropping two points at home.

The Colombian has scored just twice in the league this season and there is a feeling that he is brooding after failing to find a way out of Rangers in the summer.

The January window will be another opportunity for him to move on from Rangers, but Ferguson stressed that he needs to start performing and scoring goals if he wants to attract bids in the winter.

He indicated that not many clubs will show an interest in the forward if his form continues to be bad in the coming months.

Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show: “To get top dollar, he needs to start performing and scoring goals.

“I am sure the manager has sat down and said, ‘if your mind is elsewhere great but it is still two and a half months for the window to open and if you want a club to pay good money for you, you need to start performing on the pitch and scoring goals’.

“He has got another two years [one year] after this year so you are still probably looking at £12m to £15m.

“But to get that, he needs to start scoring goals and get back to some sort of form.”

Gerrard was insistent about holding on to Morelos last summer despite the striker wanting to leave.
