Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid at Anfield last week saw them progress into the round of 16 of the Champions League as winners of Group B.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have booked their place in the last 16 of the European competition with two games remaining, leaving Porto midfielder Grujic impressed.

Grujic, who put an end to his five-and-a-half-year association with Liverpool in the summer, is of the view that the Reds have met their expectations in the Champions League.

The Serbia international also paid homage to his former club by admitting that they were in the lead in their Champions League group even before a ball was kicked.

My former club were in the lead even before the start, they played great and justified all expectations“, Grujic told Serbian daily Sportski Zurnal.

Grujic believes that Porto did not deserve to be thrashed 5-1 when they met Liverpool in September, however does not think his side can issue threats to the Reds ahead of the return at Anfield.

We cannot threaten Liverpool after a convincing defeat in the first match“, the midfielder said.

We did not deserve such a convincing defeat at our stadium.

We will try to be better at Anfield and get closer to the knockout phase.

While Liverpool have already sealed their place at the top of the Group B in the Champions League, second-placed Porto still have the chance to progress into the round of 16 ahead of Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.
