The 26-year-old defender is in the final year of his contract at Hertha Berlin and he could leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

But Stark could be on his way out in the winter transfer window as he is attracting interest from the Premier League.

West Ham are pushing to land the German defender in the January transfer window and initial talks over a deal have taken place.

David Moyes wants to bring in a centre-back in January due to Angelo Ogbonna’s serious knee injury, which could keep him out for the rest of the season.

A defender is his priority and Stark has emerged as the big target for the east London club ahead of the winter transfer window.

The 26-year-old defender is also keen on a move to the Premier League with West Ham but he is happy at Hertha Berlin as well.

But given his contract situation, Hertha Berlin could consider selling him in January in order to get a fee from his departure.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham can work out an agreement with Hertha Berlin to sign Stark in January.
