The Magpies, under their new owners, have been working on appointing a sporting director to assist them with the recruitment process.

However, they have not yet settled on who they want to take the role and are determined not to be rushed, despite the January transfer window now being just weeks away.

It is claimed that despite the lack of a sporting director, Newcastle are ready to move quickly when the January transfer window opens as they look to wrap up signings for Eddie Howe.

The club’s takeover met with fierce opposition from a number of Premier League clubs, who were unhappy at the prospect of Newcastle being bought by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.

However, they have not detected any reluctance from rival clubs to deal with them, which could bode well for January.

Howe is keen for Premier League experience to be signed in January and doing deals with other teams in the league would likely be his preference.

The club have discussed potential moves for Jesse Lingard, Ross Barkley, Nathaniel Phillips, Kieran Tripper, Harry Winks and James Tarkowski.

Newcastle United have their work cut out to save their Premier League status as they are currently placed at the bottom of the table, six points off safety.
