Leeds are evaluating the possibility of adding a new hitman to their attacking department to support first choice striker Patrick Bamford in the upcoming winter transfer window and they are tipped to push to snap up Diaz from the Championship side.

Diaz has hit the ground running for Blackburn this season in the Championship with 17 goals in 21 outings and they are in negotiations with the striker to renew his contract on a long-term basis, amidst interest from the Whites.

However, Mowbray has insisted that he does not want to lose any players during the January window, including Diaz, and stressed the need for his club to further bolster their squad in the upcoming window.

“We don’t want to lose any players, we want to add to it, we need to keep growing this football club”, Mowbray was quoted as saying by the Lancashire Telegraph.

“How far we can take it is another question.

“We have to add to what we’ve got, not take away.”

It was claimed that Diaz’s contract is out of contract next summer, but Mowbray has confirmed that is not the case as Blackburn have an option to extend his stint and stressed potential suitors will need to offer an amount that the club would find hard to turn down.

“He [Diaz] is not walking away for nothing in the summer.

“All of those things are really pertinent.

“How much do you pay Ben Brereton to keep him happy and stay at this club and keep the journey going? Or when does he cut off and say he’s not signing so you decide what you want to do?

“We’ve not reached that stage with him because he’s a brilliant kid, no ego, works really hard for the lads.

“I’d like to think we can give Ben a new contract because I believe the best way to leave the club would be if someone offers an amount of money that would just be stupid to turn down and we could buy three £5m players on the back of it and then give yourselves a real chance and expectation to get promotion.”

In addition to Leeds, Spanish giants Sevilla are keen on a winter move for Diaz, while scouts from Burnley, Newcastle, Brighton and Southampton have all monitored him.
