Rangnick is now settling into life as a Premier League manager after agreeing to take over at Manchester United on an interim basis until the end of the season.

He has long had ambitions to work in the Premier League and, according to German magazine Kicker, held talks with Arsenal when they were looking for a replacement for Arsene Wenger.

However, when Arsenal opted to extend Mesut Ozil’s contract without consulting Rangnick, the German tactician ended the talks.

The Gunners eventually turned to Unai Emery to start the post-Wenger era at the Emirates Stadium.

Rangnick will take his Manchester United side to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in April next year.

The clash could prove to be a key one, with both sides having hopes of recording a top four finish in the Premier League this season.

Rangnick started off his time as Red Devils boss with a win on Sunday as Manchester United edged out Crystal Palace 1-0 at Old Trafford.
