The 34-year-old striker is out of contract in the summer and is widely expected to leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

But it is possible that he could move on in the winter transfer window, something Manchester United have not yet decided, as there are suggestions that Barcelona are interested in signing him.

The Catalan giants want to sign a striker in January and the veteran Uruguayan has emerged as their top target.

But Cavani has struggled with injuries this season and according to Catalan daily Sport, the club are keeping track of his recovery.

He returned to training with Manchester United last week but was not in the squad in their 1-0 win over Norwich City last weekend.

Barcelona are keen on Cavani but do not want to take any chances as he would be on a substantial salary and the club want him to play regularly.

They are keeping a close eye on his recovery and checking whether he will be ready to return to action soon.

With the Manchester United training ground closed due to a Covid outbreak, it is likely to take more time for the Uruguayan to return to action on the pitch.

And Barcelona are likely to keep a close watch on how he looks once he returns before taking a decision to try and sign him next month.
