The 31-year-old full-back has been keen on a move back to England for over a year and he was interested in a move to Manchester United last summer.

But Atletico Madrid refused to let him go in the previous transfer window for a fee his suitors would pay, despite Manchester United wanting to sign him.

Newcastle have identified him as their top target for the winter transfer window and they are now making progress in getting a deal over the line.

It has been claimed that Newcastle are ready to offer him a massive contract and make him the club’s highest-paid player.

The England international is up for the move and Newcastle do not see any issues in working out personal terms with the player.

The Magpies are looking to reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid, who have been reluctant to lose the defender.

But it seems progress has been made in talks and Newcastle are confident about signing Trippier next month.

Eddie Howe wants to add his experience to the squad and the attacking output he can provide from the full-back position.
