With the January transfer window the Magpies’ first post the big money takeover at St. James Park, a host of names have been linked with a move to Tyneside.

Newcastle hold an interest in Lingard and have been expected to make a play to sign the attacker, who was on loan at West Ham United last term.

Lingard has been linked to a move back to West Ham, but if the Hammers do swoop they will not face competition from Newcastle.

The Magpies are not intent on pursuing the Manchester United winger and do not consider him a prospective signing at the present moment.

It is believed that Lingard could stay on at Old Trafford until the summer as the winger himself wishes to play a key part in the rest of the Red Devils’ season.

Lingard has made just cameos off the bench for the Red Devils this season in the Premier League, with his eight appearances still producing two goals.

Newcastle meanwhile will look for other solutions in their first transfer window post-takeover as they intend to get out of the mire of the relegation zone.
