Dembele has less than a year left on his current contract at the Camp Nou and he is yet to commit to a new deal at the club.

The winger’s situation at Barcelona have put several clubs across Europe on alert and Premier League side Newcastle have held talks with his entourage over a move to Tyneside next summer on a free transfer.

Barcelona have been trying to tie Dembele down with a new contract for several months and made him an upgraded offer earlier this month.

The Blaugrana’s latest offer is worth €7.5m per season, which could rise to €11.5m with bonuses based on appearances and performances but they are yet to receive an answer from the player.

And according to Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona want to hear from Dembele soon and have set him a deadline to decide whether he wants to sign on fresh terms at the club.

As it stands Dembele is allowed to talk to potential suitors in the January but Barcelona want an answer from him on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

It remains to be seen whether Dembele decides to stay in Catalunya and snub interest from the likes of Newcastle.
