Haaland came close to joining Manchester United in December 2019 before he decided to join Dortmund where he has smashed in 76 goals in 74 appearances.

The Red Devils have continued to monitor the Norwegian and he remains one of their top targets for the next summer transfer window.

Rangnick is now pushing Manchester United to sign the forward at the end of the season and is leading their charge.

The German recently held talks with the striker’s father Alf-Inge Haaland about his son potentially joining Manchester United.

Rangnick has had a cordial relationship with Haaland’s camp since the striker moved to Red Bull Salzburg in 2018.

A release clause worth €75m to €90m will come into effect in the summer and Haaland is almost certain to leave Dortmund at the end of the season.

Manchester United are hopeful that Rangnick will play an important role in them landing Europe’s hottest property.

But they are set to face competition from Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid for his signature.
