Jones’ injuries mean that he has not played first-team football in Manchester United colours since January 2020.

The defender has been in the last four Premier League squads for Manchester United, but he is unlikely to play until an FA Cup game next month.

His lack of football over the last two years has not deterred clubs from showing an interest in signing him next month.

It has been claimed that Benfica are the latest club to get in touch with Manchester United to enquire about the 29-year-old defender.

Jones may be open to a move away from Manchester United to rekindle his career and play regular first-team football.

The Portuguese giants are interested but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be agreed for a move.

Several other clubs have also been keeping tabs on the defender with a view to potentially signing him in January.

Jones has a contract until 2023 and is only one of two players remaining who have won the Premier League title at the club.
