The Portuguese has proved to be a valuable addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad since moving to the Anfield from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020.

Jota is on fire for the Reds at the moment with seven goals in his last eight outings across all competitions, and is only behind team-mate Mohamed Salah in the Premier League scoring charts.

Liverpool legend Aldridge is impressed with the way Jota is playing at the moment and is of the view that he offers a different edge to the Reds’ attack with his ability inside the box.

Aldridge explained that the Merseyside giants have been missing a fox in the box for quite a while, but Jota has stepped up as he continue to thrive up front.

“One of the best things about Jota is that he offers something a little bit different: he comes alive in the box”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“We’ve had players like Ian Rush, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and even myself in the past, who were box players.

“That’s one thing we really haven’t had in a while.

“[Luis] Suarez could also come into that category, but he could score from anywhere!

“Jota is thriving and it’s great to see the number of goals he is scoring.

“He will only get better with appearances and will be the main man in January when Mane and Salah depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.”

Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Salah will all be available for Liverpool’s first game next month against Chelsea, before they will leave on international duty with their respective countries for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Fans will be hoping Jota will carry on providing the goods up front while both Salah and Mane are away.
