Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou roped in striker Kyogo Furuhashi from Vissel Kobe in the summer and he has proven to be a great addition, having hit the ground running at his new club.

Postecoglou is keen on adding more firepower to his squad as they look to give Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers a sterner challenge in the second half of this season and he has found his ideal man in Maeda, his former charge at Yokohama F Marinos.

The Bhoys have been in discussions with the Japanese side over a move for the 24-year-old and they have made a breakthrough.

Celtic have reached an agreement in principle with Yokohama F Marinos over an initial loan deal for Maeda.

The Marinos star was the joint top scorer in the J-League last season and is now set to reunite with Postecoglou at Parkhead.

Celtic will have the option to permanently add Maeda to their ranks next summer.

However, Celtic are not finished with their recruitment from Japan and are still keen on snapping up Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.
