The Magpies are dealing with injuries and illness to a clutch of their players as they remain embroiled in a relegation scrap.

Newcastle were without midfielder Hayden in their 1-1 Premier League draw against Manchester United on Monday, as he was serving a suspension having picked up a fifth booking.

However, the Tyneside giants are set to be without the services of Hayden for a spell as he had to go under the knife to treat a knee injury on Wednesday at a private hospital in London.

Hayden’s last appearance for Newcastle came against Manchester City in a 4-0 loss on 19th December but he had to take an injection to get on the pitch against the Citizens.

But it was concluded that the 26-year-old needed to have surgery on his knee and is now on the road to recovery.

Having suffered another injury blow in the shape of Hayden, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will look to bring in a replacement in the upcoming window.

In addition to Hayden, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin are among the latest names added to the injury list at St James’ Park.
