Tuanzebe is currently in the middle of this third loan spell at Aston Villa but he has received limited opportunities to play since Steven Gerrard took charge in November.

Napoli made a move to sign him on loan from Manchester United and a deal is in place between the two clubs for the centre-back.

Manchester United will pocket a loan fee of €800,000 and Napoli will have an option to make the move permanent for a fee of €20m.

But according to Italian daily Corriere del Mezzogiorno, bureaucratic reasons have delayed the deal from being completed.

The Serie A giants are sifting through the paperwork, which has become more complicated as Tuanzebe is a non-EU citizen due to Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.

However, if things go according to plan Napoli are ready to put him through a medical by the end of the week.

They are planning to schedule the medical checks for Tuanzebe on Thursday or Friday if everything falls into place.

Napoli are hoping to have him available for his side’s clash against Sampdoria on Sunday or for the Coppa Italia clash against Fiorentina next week.
