The Magpies confirmed the signing of right-back Kieran Trippier today in what is the club’s first signing under their new wealthy ownership.

Howe’s side are currently in the relegation zone of the Premier League and the manager will be hoping in addition to Trippier, new players come in the door to turn around the Magpies’ season.

The Magpies boss is confident that the club will able to secure the services of a few more players in this transfer window but insisted that he cannot give any guarantees and that the situation is changing by the hour.

“I’m confident but can’t give promises”, Howe said in a press conference about the possibility of more players landing on Tyneside.

“We’re working hard to improve, without anything necessarily imminent.

“The outlook is changing by the hour and we’re working to secure signings.

“I’ve learned to laugh at how many players we’re linked to.”

Howe expressed delight at the arrival of Trippier and stressed that he feels the right-back will bring qualities of leadership in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

“We’re delighted”, Howe added about Trippier’s signing.

“I know him well, I know he’ll bring a huge amount in terms of leadership.

“He has a winning mentality and is driven to succeed.

“On the pitch, we have an outstanding technical player who attacks well, defends well and brings a calmness.”

The Magpies are not sitting calmly and are moving fast this transfer window, as evidenced by a new offer for Lille centre-back Sven Botman made recently.
