The Magpies have already signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood this month and are looking to bring in more players, especially defenders.

Newcastle have been pushing to land the signature of Diego Carlos but Sevilla have so far resisted selling him despite multiple offers from the Premier League side.

Howe claimed that ahead of Saturday’s key game against Watford there will not be any more additions to the squad and no new signings are imminent at Newcastle at the moment.

The Newcastle boss insisted that the club are still looking to bring in more players and stressed the importance of bringing in the fresh faces as soon as possible given their precarious position in the league table.

Howe said in a press conference when asked about more incoming signings: “We’re not close to anybody, the squad of players we have will be the squad for Watford.

“We are looking and we have time left in the window but we know we need to move quickly.

“Obviously we are still active in the market.”

Newcastle want to bring in at least two centre-backs as part of their plans to repair their rearguard.
