The 25-year-old attacker recently signed a new five-year contract with Bayern Munich to end all speculation over his long-term future at the club.

Coman was heavily linked with a move to England over the last few months as contract talks with Bayern Munich rumbled on in the background.

But it has been claimed that another Premier League club tried to sign the winger before he decided to extend his deal with the German champions.

According to German daily Bild’s Bayern-Insider podcast, Newcastle made an attempt to sign Coman from Bayern Munich during this month’s transfer window.

Newcastle had the funds to pay the fee needed to sign Coman and wanted to see whether a deal could be agreed upon.

However, no switch happened and Bayern Munich soon locked Coman down to a new contract, which sees him earn €17m per season.

He went on to sign a new deal with Bayern Munich and pledge his long-term future to the Bavarians, ending Newcastle’s hopes.
