The Italian side have held talks with Arsenal to reach an agreement and they have found common ground with the Gunners, according to Sky Italia.

Udinese are now closing in on Mari’s signature and the defender will arrive in Italy on loan.

The loan agreement will be a simple loan deal and not contain an option to buy.

It remains to be seen if Udinese will look to sit at the negotiating table with Arsenal in the summer if Mari makes a big impression during his loan stint.

Mari will join a club sitting in 14th spot in the Serie A standings, just four points above the drop zone.

Udinese have struggled to keep things tight at the back, conceding 36 goals in their 20 league games.

The 28-year-old has made just three appearances for Arsenal so far this season after failing to win over Mikel Arteta.
