The Magpies moved early in the ongoing window to land Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood but have since struggled to make further signings.

Newcastle have so far failed to strike a deal with Sevilla for centre-back Diego Carlos, a position boss Eddie Howe has made a priority, while they are still trying to add another attacker.

Only one week remains in the transfer window and Newcastle have ramped up their recruitment drive to make more signings and boost their chances of survival in the league.

And the Tyneside giants’ hierarchy are in discussions with the agents of at least six targets this week to possibly push through deals for them.

Newcastle have also identified alternative options should they fail to strike deals with players towards the top of the transfer wish list.

The Magpies are currently in Saudi Arabia taking part in warm weather training and co-owner Amanda Staveley is set to hold talks with other key figures of the ownership group about how approach the final days of the window.

Newcastle are gearing up for a busy end to the window and it remains to be seen whether they can make further signings, having added three more crucial points to their tally with a win away at Leeds United in their latest Premier League outing.
