The 23-year-old midfielder has 18 months left on his contract and has made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season.

Only Tyrone Mings has made more Premier League appearances for Aston Villa in the current squad than Luiz and he has been an important player for the side.

But his future is under the scanner due to the fact that he has not been offered a new deal by the Midlands club.

It has been claimed that there are no guarantees that Aston Villa will not be tempted into selling him before next Monday’s transfer deadline if a big offer lands on their table for the Brazilian.

Luiz has suitors in the Premier League as well as from a few clubs in European leagues such as Serie A.

Arsenal have been long-time admirers of the player and Mikel Arteta knows him well, having monitored the player during his spell at Girona when he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

His situation is also being monitored by Newcastle, who want to bring in a midfielder this month.

Luiz is not a priority target for Newcastle at the moment but that could change before the transfer deadline.
