Barkas’ future at Celtic Park is under the scanner as he is down the pecking order at the club and is not a key part of boss Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
The Greek has only had limited game time at Celtic since joining in 2020 and has struggled to impress.
Barkas is keen on leaving the Glasgow giants but despite interest from elsewhere he was yet to receive any offers this month.
However, the shot-stopper’s chances of finding a way out of the Bhoys this month have improved as Swedish side Goteborg are keen on a move for him.
The Allsvenskan outfit have contacted Celtic over a loan move for Barkas in the ongoing window and have enquired about the finances that would be involved for them to agree on a deal.
Goteborg have a number of other names on their shortlist of candidates for the custodian’s role and are not able to make a big offer, but they are firm admirers of the Hoops star and want to take him to Sweden.
It remains to be seen whether Goteborg can strike a deal with Celtic over Barkas before the window slams shut on Monday night.
