Since the sacking of Rafael Benitez, Evertonians have been left in a flux as the club have still not appointed a new manager.
One of the names mentioned as suitable for the job was that of former Toffees player Rooney, who enjoyed two spells with Everton and came up through their academy.
Rooney let loose that the Toffees had indeed made overtures to him, through his agent, but he turned them down.
The Rams boss feels that he still has a job to do at Derby and all his energies are concentrated on the game at the weekend against Birmingham City.
“Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the vacant job which I turned down”, Rooney said in a press conference before the match against the Blues.
“I have a job here I am doing, which is an important job to me and that means me getting the team ready for Sunday.”
Currently, the names that are believed to be in contention for the job at Goodison Park are caretaker Duncan Ferguson, former Porto manager Vítor Pereira and Rooney’s former England team-mate Frank Lampard.
