Eddie Howe has been keen to bring in another full-back in the ongoing transfer window and the club have been in talks to sign Bakker.

Newcastle recently tabled a bid for him and the defender was believed to be keen on the move to St. James’ Park as well.

It was suggested Leverkusen would let him leave if they found a replacement and it seems the negotiations have gone off the rails with Newcastle continuing to struggle to bring in new signings.

And it has been claimed that Bakker joining Newcastle is unlikely to happen in the final days of the transfer window.

The 21-year-old was a key target for the club but it has been claimed that Newcastle are unlikely to get their hands on him.

Newcastle are closing in on a move to sign midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon for a deal north of the €50m figure.

Howe is still keen to add one more forward and remains desperate for centre-backs going into the final 72 hours of the window.
