Manchester City are keen to loan out McAtee before Monday’s transfer deadline with several clubs believed to be interested in him.
Scottish giants Rangers are amongst the clubs who are in the race to sign him on loan and are pushing to take him from Manchester City.
McAtee is keen on a move but there remains a stumbling block before Manchester City agree to let him go.
He has 18 months left on his current contract and Manchester City have offered him a new deal.
The Premier League champions do not want to loan him out before he agrees to sign the new deal with the club.
Pep Guardiola has stressed that he wants the midfielder to stay and believes there is a pathway for him to the first team.
He has already made three first-team appearances for the club but McAtee is keen to play more senior games moving forward.
Rangers have an advantage in the race due to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s relationship with Guardiola due to his time at the City Football Group.
But everything is depending on McAtee agreeing to sign a new deal with Manchester City.
