After beefing up their squad with the arrivals of Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne, the Villans are locked in pursuit of Juventus midfielder Bentancur, while Spurs are also keen and recently failed with a loan approach.
They would like to bring in the Juventus star to strengthen their options in midfield but they received a setback recently.
Their offer for the midfielder was turned down by the Turin club as they are looking for an initial £21m fee.
Aston Villa’s determination is strong though and they are willing to almost double the current salary of the midfielder, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com.
The Villans are designing a new offer to approach the Turin club with, which could make them wobble.
Both the club and Bentancur himself are still unsure about the move and it remains to be seen whether the Villans’ wage offer tempts the midfielder.
The jury is also out on whether Tottenham will go back in with another proposal for Bentancur, as they look likely to be shifting Giovani Lo Celso off the books soon.
