Ekitike has been a target for Newcastle throughout the window but they only made a concerted effort to sign him on deadline day.

However, it seemed even though Newcastle took their time to try and sign the teenage striker, their patience would pay off.

Reims accepted an offer from Newcastle for a fee of £33m plus add-ons but the striker threw a wrench in their work by deciding against leaving the French club.

It has been claimed that the striker is currently resisting considerable pressure from his family who want him to join Newcastle.

The teenage striker wants to stay at Reims where he is a regular starter and wait until the end of the season.

Newcastle have offered him a lucrative contract but he is continuing to snub a move to St. James’ Park.

He is unlikely to be more than a bench option at Newcastle and he wants to prioritise playing regular football at this stage of his career.

For the moment, Ekitike is going against his family’s wishes and has not changed his mind about a deadline day move.
