After the firing of Rafael Benitez, the Toffees legend was put into the interim charge of the team as the hierarchy considered their options.

Ferguson was considered for the permanent job at Everton, along with Vitor Pereira and Lampard, and missed out to the former Chelsea manager.

Lampard is Everton’s choice and is now finalising his backroom team at Goodison Park.

In the meantime, Ferguson has been linked with the job at Sunderland, with the Black Cats having sacked Lee Johnson.

Lampard however, would like to see Ferguson continue on at Goodison Park and remain part of his coaching team.

Ferguson is currently in interim charge of the Toffees, for the second time, and has overseen just a single game, the 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.

It remains to be seen whether the Toffees legend continues on as an assistant, for another manager, or whether being in full charge at the Stadium of Light attracts him.
