Carrasco has made himself a key part of Diego Simeone’s squad in his second spell at Atletico Madrid, and his performances have seen him attract interest from elsewhere.
The Premier League duo of Newcastle and Tottenham are keen on him and it is claimed both clubs are in talks with Carrasco’s agent Pini Zahavi over a move.
Despite interest from England, the Rojiblancos are not keen on letting the Belgian leave this late in the transfer window.
But Carrasco has a €60m release clause in his contract at Atletico Madrid and it has been suggested both Tottenham and Newcastle could try to trigger that option before the window slams shut.
However, the option to pay Carrasco’s release clause is off the table as the activation date to trigger that clause has expired in recent days.
Any potential suitor keen on a move for the Belgian on deadline has to negotiate a fee with Atletico Madrid, but they are firmly against letting him leave at this stage of the window.
Both the Magpies and Spurs are highly unlikely to sign the 28-year-old today, although a move next summer remains a possibility.
