The Premier League giants were keen to let the player go in the winter transfer window and a few clubs did want him.

Bordeaux had a deal in place with Manchester United to take Jones on loan for the rest of the season towards the end of the window.

However, Jones decided against moving to Bordeaux despite the French club making another attempt on deadline day.

And it has been claimed that Jones’ name was also mentioned at Leicester as a potential target.

Brendan Rodgers wanted to bring in a centre-back on loan for the second half of the season.

Jones was one of the centre-backs they discussed signing but ultimately decided that he would be of the wrong profile.

Leicester were also concerned about his fitness as he played for Manchester United for the first time in two years earlier this month.
