Zapata’s future at Atalanta was under the scanner until the final hours of the recently-concluded winter transfer window.

West Ham made a move to sign him late on deadline day once they were informed that he was available to move from the Italian club.

The Hammers eventually failed to sign him due to a paucity of time but there was talk that even Newcastle tried to sign him on deadline.

But it has been claimed that there is no evidence to suggest that Newcastle made a late move for the Colombian on the final day of the window.

Newcastle were interested in getting their hands on him and even had talks with Atalanta over signing Zapata.

However, a deal never materialised and Newcastle were more invested in bringing in centre-backs during that time of the winter window.

They were interested in Jesse Lingard and Hugo Ekitike on deadline day but Zapata was never an option in the final hours of the window.
