Sunderland are set to consider the 51-year-old for their vacant manager’s position after they sacked Lee Johnson last weekend following a 6-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers.
Keane has not been a manager for over 12 years and his previous stint at Sunderland ended in acrimony despite him getting them promoted to the Premier League.
Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor slammed his man-management skills and had unflattering things to say about his stint as assistant to Paul Lambert at Villa Park.
Keys is keen to know what Keane thinks about the former striker’s assessment of his ability and stressed that looking back at his managerial career, the Irishman was an ordinary manager.
The veteran broadcaster said on Twitter: “It’ll be interesting to see how Keano responds to this.
“Today’s ‘experts’ don’t like judgements on themselves – apart from the fact that his managerial career was bang ordinary.”
Sunderland are also reportedly keen to speak to Neil Lennon and Grant McCann for the managerial role.
But Keane is believed to be the number one target for the majority of the board.
