Burn left the Seagulls this past month as Magpies manager Eddie Howe was desperate for a centre-back and the then Brighton defender provided a good option.
However, the Magpies first had to see a couple of bids rejected by the Seagulls before the Sussex club ultimately relented and Burn became a Newcastle player on deadline day.
Potter feels that Burn’s move favours all parties as the Seagulls got to recoup a good amount of money for the defender and he got to move to his boyhood club.
The Seagulls boss is satisfied with the move as both the player and the club got what they wanted and Potter is not worried about the depth in defence in his squad.
“It was one of those situations, win win win for everybody”, Potter was quoted as saying by The Argus.
“Newcastle get a good player, a good character, we get a good fee and Dan gets a move to his boyhood club.
“It’s a nice story.
“The player indicated it was something he wanted to explore.
“He’s from the area, he’s got family in the area.
“He’s 29 and with his contract situation, you have to consider the finances.
“It felt like good business for the club.
“It was difficult because of his quality on and off the pitch but we have got good options in those defensive areas so it made sense for everyone.”
Burn moves to the Tyneside club at a time when they are in the relegation zone and he will be hoping along with his fellow January signings he can get the Magpies out of trouble.
