Byers spent a large portion of the season out with injury but has recently made his return and has impressed for manager Darren Moore’s Wednesday side.
The midfielder made his return in the game against Morecambe earlier in the week, where he played the full 90 minutes and got on the scoresheet, and with his goal against Burton Albion on Saturday he has scored in back-to-back matches.
Luongo thinks that it is mightily impressive how Byers has worked hard to return to the first-team fold and the way in which he has gone about his business now that he is back, being calm on the ball.
Having been through injury troubles himself, Luongo revealed that Byers and him shared their journey on the comeback path and he thinks they struck a good partnership to frustrate the Brewers.
“George has been working so hard, trying to get into the team”, Luongo said to Sheffield Wednesday’s official site post-match.
“He’s been brilliant.
“He’s calm on the ball.
“I think we came through together during our rehab, so we got to play together in the warm-up games and the Under-23s and stuff like that.
“We had a good partnership today I thought and controlled the game.”
It is not only Byers who is on a streak though as the Owls themselves have now won three games in a row and have climbed up to seventh place in the League One standings, within touching distance of the playoff places.
