Illan Meslier has been the undisputed number one at Leeds since he broke into the team in the last leg of their promotion season in the Championship.

At 21, he is the youngest first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League and his deputy in the squad is another 21-year-old in Kristoffer Klaesson, who joined Leeds last summer.

There are suggestions that Leeds are badly in need of some experience in the goalkeeper department to take some of the load off Meslier’s young shoulders.

And it has been claimed that Leeds had internal discussions over bringing in a new second-choice goalkeeper

Leeds considered signing an experienced goalkeeper to be the number 2 behind Meslier in the squad.

But Marcelo Bielsa chose to keep his faith in the young Frenchman, who has had his support since he broke into the team.

Leeds also believe Klaesson has been gradually finding his feet in English football and has looked more confident in recent Under-23 games.
