Maguire is having a bad season at Manchester United, but that has not stopped Gareth Southgate from naming him in the England squad.
The defender started in England’s 3-0 win over Ivory Coast at Wembley, but before the start of the game, he was roundly booed by the home fans when his name was announced on the teamsheet.
Jordan Henderson criticised the booing of the Manchester United captain and Gareth Southgate stood beside his players.
Kane weighed into the topic as England captain and conceded that after the work his team have carried out in building a relationship with the fans it was disappointing to hear the bad reception Maguire received.
He said that Maguire has been brilliant on the pitch for England over the last few years and has been a big part of their progress as a national team.
The England captain took to Twitter and wrote: “We’ve worked hard to rebuild our connection with England fans in the last few years so to hear Harry Maguire [getting] booed at Wembley before kickoff was just not right.
“The fact that he’s been brilliant on the pitch and given us all so many great memories makes it even harder to understand.
“He doesn’t deserve that reception.
“He’s got full support in the changing room and should have the same from every England fan.”
Maguire will hope to rekindle his club form this season for Manchester United and win back the support of the fans.
