The winger arrived at Arsenal from French giants Lille in a big money move in the summer of 2019, but has so far struggled to live up to his billing.
Pepe has only played a bit-part role under Gunners boss Mikel Arteta this season, and has not started a game in the Premier League since mid-October.
Former England winger Barnes is of the view that Pepe’s game does not suit the style Arsenal are playing under Arteta.
Barnes stressed that a player needs to find a club that suits him well and stressed Pepe should move on from the Emirates Stadium if an opportunity that will be acceptable to all parties involved comes up.
“The style of football at Arsenal clearly doesn’t suit Nicolas Pepe as much as Lille’s did”, Barnes told Bonus Code Bets.
“As a player, you have to find a club that suits you.
“It’s okay to say a player should be moved on, but if he’s got a contract, you can’t always just sell them if they don’t want to go.
“And equally, players cannot force a club to sell them.
“For the sake of his own career, he may feel it is best to move on.
“And if Arsenal receives a bid that they deem sufficient, it could happen. It’s clearly not worked out.
“If there’s a compromise between Nicolas, the club and all other parties then it’s best that he accepts it.
“Arsenal will get a bit of money back and can use it to buy someone.”
The north London giants are claimed to be looking to bring in wide players in the forthcoming window, which could result in Pepe being pushed further down the pecking order at the club.
